The Sofar artist community is home to thousands of independent artists around the world who are deeply involved with their local music scenes and rely heavily on income from live performance. Without being able to play shows, these artists are facing an unprecedented time of disruption and uncertainty.
The fund aims to raise $250,000 for Sofar artists whose livelihood have been affected by COVID-19. 100% of proceeds go directly to the artists, and your donation is tax deductible.
The fund’s initial goal is raising $250,000 to help 1,000 artists through grants of $250 each, but the more the fund raises, the more artists will receive direct financial support. 100% of fund proceeds will be allocated to artists. Frequency of Sofar shows and online concert listings will be used as an indicator of which artists historically rely the most on small-venue gigs for live performance income. An application is not needed in order to be eligible for the grant—when funds are ready to be disbursed, Sofar will contact relevant artists directly via email with further details. The first round of payments was sent to artists in June 2020.
Sofar Sounds is donating staff time to assist in administering the fund, which is managed by Passim, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Sofar Sounds Global Artist Fund donations made through the Sofar website are payable to Passim, and Sofar will issue any donation receipts on behalf of them via email. All donations are tax-deductible in the US.
