Well, not self-proclaimed exactly, technically it was a classmate who came up with the phrase, and it just seemed to work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI thought it really summed up what I do in my music\u2014exploring fears that I have, unpacking emotional situations I\u2019m trying to distill into a cohesive narrative,\u201d Sabrina said. \u201cAs complicated as things can be, I\u2019m trying to put that into something understandable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What might that sound like? Sometimes it\u2019s a song wrapped in \u201890s-tinged folk pop, or a lush ballad, but at the heart of it remains Sabrina Song\u2019s subtle vocal delivery, occasionally leaning into big choral moments, always with an ease. But that ease took the 23-year-old Sofar artist a little while to find while studying music at NYU.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI spent the first two years just being so intimidated by my peers,\u201d the artist said. \u201cI\u2019ve been performing and releasing music for a while, but I feel like the last year or two feels like where it actually started to make sense to me. It took me so long to be comfortable with calling myself an artist.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The shift coincided with a slew of single releases, along with Sabrina Song\u2019s newest EP, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/29K5TNQ78xKRCoObhH9EdX?si=13Xh7XN3QbW15UDSqU4gAQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When It All Comes Crashing Down<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, four intimate tracks filled with sultry tones and percussive shapes that feel almost intuitive. Recently, the NYC-based artist spent a month in London as Sofar\u2019s Artist in Residence (following <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sofarsounds.com\/blog\/articles\/neone-the-wonderer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NEONE The Wonderer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), playing Sofar shows around the city and working on new songs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt was really nice to have the space and time, even physically,\u201d Sabrina said. \u201cI don’t live alone [and]I\u2019m usually working an in-person job, so being able to sit with myself was a huge privilege that I had there. I think it yielded some interesting new songs that wouldn\u2019t have come about otherwise. She\u2019s trying not to define anything too firmly, to keep letting things move freely, with confidence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI used to define success so rigidly,\u201d Sabrina said. \u201cNow when I think about where I want my career to go, I think all of this is part of the career. I used to think when I get to this milestone that will be the beginning, when it\u2019s like, I won\u2019t get anywhere close to those things if I don\u2019t have the things I\u2019m doing now. Sometimes I tear myself down for not being closer to where I want to be, [but] I\u2019ve just started to look at it really differently.
