If you\u2019re in the Philadelphia area, look no further than\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nicgrooming.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nic Grooming<\/a><\/strong>, a walk-in barbershop with four locations scattered throughout the city. Regardless of the location, you\u2019re going to find more than a haircut at Nic\u2019s\u2014you\u2019ll find a growing community, educational opportunities, and perhaps even Sofar performances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-hgRTRy jJODln\" data-qaid=\"article-content\">\n<div class=\"sc-fAjcbJ chedHR\" data-qaid=\"slice\">\n<div class=\"sc-iIHSe kzHi\">\n<div class=\"sc-Rmtcm gCZRKY\">\n<div class=\"sc-Rmtcm sc-gldTML eXPgTN\" data-qaid=\"main-container\">\n<div class=\"sc-hgRTRy jJODln\">\n<div data-qaid=\"introText-content\">\n<p>Nic Grooming is owned and run by Nick Berardi, a longtime barber and stylist with the craft practically in his blood. With a father who works as a barber, and a mother who works as a cosmetologist, Nick grew up in salons and traveling the world with his parents for conventions. Flash forward a few years, and Nick was working at his dad\u2019s salon,\u00a0<strong>Richard Nicolas Hair Studio<\/strong>, alongside his brother, and more recently, his sister-in-law (it\u2019s a full-on family affair). But Nick was set on opening a barbershop, so he decided to branch out and start his own spot, Nic Grooming.<\/p>\n<p>Barbershops can sometimes have a reputation of being so neighborhood-based that they\u2019re almost intimidating, but from the start, Nick wanted to make an inclusive space.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t care what you are, what you were, what you\u2019re gonna be, it doesn\u2019t matter to me,\u201d Nick said. \u201cYou got hair and you\u2019re cool and wanna have fun hair? Next, you\u2019re gonna note the board with names on it. That\u2019s the waitlist, as Nick decided from day one it would be a walk-in only shop. People might try to sneak in an appointment, but they get used to the system. In fact, it becomes a space where customers job their name down, then sit back and have a beer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try to make it a hybrid fun space,\u201d Nick said.<\/p>\n<p>Part of that hybrid experience comes from using the space for community events. Every barber at Nic\u2019s trains at Nic\u2019s. They also get the opportunity to take fun evening courses such as how to buy a properly fitted suit, or how to pick out a cigar.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-fAjcbJ chedHR\" data-qaid=\"slice\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sc-jWBwVP hGGMIk\" src=\"https:\/\/images.prismic.io\/sofarlive\/9adc85d5-2356-4888-8abc-61501da88055_Web_Ready-Sofar+Philly+-+16+November+2019+-+29276.png?auto=compress,format\" \/><span class=\"sc-dxgOiQ bGDywq\">Sofar Philly at Nic Grooming, photo by Quincy Stallworth<\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-fAjcbJ chedHR\" data-qaid=\"slice\">\n<div class=\"sc-iIHSe kzHi\">\n<div class=\"sc-Rmtcm gCZRKY\">\n<div class=\"sc-Rmtcm sc-gldTML eXPgTN\" data-qaid=\"main-container\">\n<div class=\"sc-hgRTRy jJODln\">\n<div data-qaid=\"introText-content\">\n<p>Live music at night was just a natural fit, though it still surprises customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI constantly get clients that\u2019ll be in my chair that say, \u2018hey I don\u2019t know if you know this, but there were a bunch of people in your shop last night, and there were bands in there,\u2019 and then I mess with them and say, \u2018wait what?!\u2019 Nick joked. \u201cThen I\u2019m like, \u2018just kidding.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt creates a buzz. People walking by see this, they see the energy, and they want to get their hair cut, that\u2019s their shop. It creates a coolness without even trying.
