Team Picks: Our Favorite Summer Cocktails

During quarantine, happy hour can often be the happiest hour of the day. Mix yours up with some of these hand-picked cocktail recipes and favorite non-alcoholic beverages from the Sofar team. Whether you're watching a livestream in the Sofar listening room, relaxing after the workday, or getting ready to cook another quarantine meal, these drinks will help freshen up your night.

OUR FAVORITE COCKTAIL RECIPES

Frozen Coconut Dacquiri

1 oz Fresh lime

1.5 oz Cream of Coconut (Coco Lopez ideally)

2 oz Dark/Aged rum

3/4 cup ice

I use this recipe from Bon Appetit.

Basil Gimlet

¾ oz fresh lime juice

¾  oz basil syrup

2 oz vodka or gin

Basil syrup: just make a batch and use it in place of simple syrup whenever desired. 3/4 cup sugar, 3/4 cup water, and a big handful of basil. Put it all in a pot, bring to a boil for a few minutes, then turn off the heat and let the basil steep while it cools. Strain out the basil and store in the fridge. 

PS — this is also delicious topped with soda or tonic and no booze.

Fruit of the Loom

A recipe from my old bar that I make every summer.

1 1/2 oz Mezcal

1/2 ox Silver Tequila

2 -3 watermelon cubes

3/4 oz lemon juice

3/4 oz simple syrup

Muddle the watermelon, shake with ice, and serve up in a coupe glass with some smoked salt or tajin on 1/2 the rim!

Mezcal Margarita Fizz

(makes 4 servings)

Optional — Muddle your favorite & freshest berries or other fruit

5 oz Silver Tequila (Blanco or white)

2 oz Mezcal

3 oz Cointreau

4 oz Fresh Lime Juice

1 oz Simple Syrup optional / to taste 

Club Soda to top off

Snow Cap Margarita

2 oz silver tequila

2 oz cream of coconut

1 oz lime juice

zest from 1 lime

Blend all ingredients with ice until you reach your desired consistency.

The "Crisp Pilsner"

1 can of premium pilsner (recommend Mikkeller)

Put in a fridge - at the back, or if pushed for time, freezer for 20 mins

Drink refreshingly crisp lager.

Tropical Fruit Slushie 

(makes 3-4 servings)

3 oz silver tequila

1 oz  dark rum

1 oz Cointreau or Gran Marnier

1/4 of a pineapple, cut into chunks

 Juice of 2 limes

1 oz simple syrup or 1 tsp sugar--can add to taste, depending on the sweetness of your pineapple

1/2 cup ice cubes

Blend until smooth. Rim your glass with a lime wedge and salt, then serve!

Simple Gin + Ginger

45 ml of gin

Dash of ginger ale (about 1/4 cup) in it 

Refreshing, simple, and delightful! Ginger ale has to be the fizzy kind and cold of course.

Espelon Paloma

Mezcal and orange slices have been my go-to this quarantine, but this summer drink is my ultimate favorite:

2oz of Espelon

Juice of 1/2 lime

Juice of 1/4 grapefruit

Top with Topo Chico

OUR FAVORITE NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

Turmeric Latte

This is my go-to livestream drink!

Turmeric to taste (fresh or ground)

Drop of maple syrup

Coconut milk

Cinnamon to taste

Tiny tiny pinch of black pepper

Iced Matcha Latte

1 tsp Japanese ceremonial matcha powder

3 tsp hot water

1 cup vanilla almond milk

Ice

Sift matcha powder into a bowl and whisk together with hot water, pour vanilla almond milk over ice, mix in matcha
