Best of the Listening Room | Meet Nupur Saraswat

Best of the Listening Room | Meet Nupur Saraswat
July 2, 2021

In this week’s Best of the Listening Room feature, meet Nupur Saraswat, a passionate and theatrical stage performer who brings an electric energy on stage with her bold, brave and volatile words. Nupur performed during National Poetry Month, and showcased the power words have to move audiences. Watch her perform, “Watch Me Piece Together,” from Sofar Bangalore, and read more about her work and influences in the interview below.

What’s your go-to album at the moment?

Everything is Beautiful -- Princess Nokia

Can you describe your style of poetry in six words?

Vulnerable, narcissistic, deliberate, free flow, audacious, forgiving

Name an accomplishment you are most proud of.

Sanskari Girl Tour 2017 with Kate Black-Regan. We took a two-woman theatrical poetry show to cities in India and Europe including Mumbai, Bangalore, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, etc. It was the most powerful feeling to hold a creation of your own and see it become something so agile and evolving.

What are you working on right now?

I am currently working on creating a book of my writing.

Are there any specific albums or artists that have had a big influence on you?

Leonard Cohen

Nayyirah Waheed

Dream collaboration and why?

Amanda Palmer, for the glory of witnessing two unfettered women exist on one stage. The power of our words, our bodies, would be one to behold. I see her and I see somebody whose work, autonomy over her earnings as an artist, her movements have reached the optimal state called flow that a few artists ever witness happen.

If you could perform at a Sofar show anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you want it to be?

London, I have always wanted to perform in London. I suspect I might find my people there.

Who are three rising creatives you’re excited about right now?

Father Bronques
