Sofar Team Picks: 21 Things to do in Summer in Los Angeles

Sofar Team Picks: 21 Things to do in Summer in Los Angeles
Sofar SolsticeJuly 13, 2020

“Summer summer summertime…” We’re going to listen to our buddies Will and Jazzy Jeff and sit back and unwind this summer as best as possible. Where better to do so than California, the land of sunshine, beaches and ultimate chill? From July 15-19, we’ll be hosting livestream shows with Stella Artois Solstice Lager in Sofar’s listening room, featuring incredible music, golden hour views, happy hour musings, and (our favorite) Stella Artois Solstice lagers.

To get us in the mood, our team is sharing their favorite things to do in LA in the summer:

(Note: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, not all of these locations may be operating at normal capacity at time of publishing. Please check local restrictions or their websites for the latest, up-to-date info).

Eating and Drinking:

“Summertime in LA means finding the best burrito, and there is nothing better than Yuca's on Hillhurst in Los Feliz. In fact, everything on the menu is incredible. It's so good they were given the James Beard Award in 2005 for America's Classics. And yes, they are open for take out!” - Shane

“Eat at Grand Central Market. Ever spend far too much time deciding what to do for dinner? Grand Central Market has you covered. It has just about anything you could ever want — Japanese, Vietnamese, Mexican, German, BBQ, Italian, seafood, and more. Have a few post-meal beers at Golden Road, and then walk down the street (less than a half mile) to The Last Bookstore. Why? Because books are cool and this is the coolest bookstore around!” - Adam G.

Malibu Wine Safari for a wine tour with Stan the Giraffe!” - Vicky

“Eat your way through LA Taco's best taco list.” - Max

The Best Beaches:

“Take the extra few minutes and drive up to Malibu for a trip to El Matador Beach. It's a bit more low key than Santa Monica/Venice/Zuma, but a great place to relax, soak up the sun, take in the waves, and explore caves and rock formations. At low tide, it's a great walk north to La Piedra beach to check out all of the sea creatures in the tidepools.” - Adam G.

“Drive down to Manhattan Beach for a weekend getaway or stroll down the famous Venice Boardwalk — don't forget to stop by the Venice Canals!” - Vicky

“Hike in Malibu — I recommend listening to our Sofar LA Summer playlist while you get a dose of nature.” - Sophie

Parks? LA’s got ‘em

“Take an easy stroll through Debs Park. You can also bike or walk the path along the LA River and grab a coffee in Frogtown.” - Max

“Take a picnic to LA’s best parks: Griffith Park, Pan Pacific Park, La Brea Tar Pits. You can also visit the secret swing in Elysian Park.” - Vicky

Catch entertainment outside

“The Rose Bowl is hosting drive-in movies in partnership with the Tribeca Film Festival this summer.” - Sophie

“There’s a great outdoor movie series in the Hollywood Cemetery called Cinespia, where you can bring your own picnic.” - Stephanie M.

Be a part of your greater community

“Volunteer! There are lots of organizations, but start with LA Works and VolunteerLA.” - Sophie
