Yoser Rodríguez has been Toronto’s premier salsa bassist since moving here from his native Cuba in 2003. Originally trained as a classical guitarist, Rodríguez is a versatile, communicative performer who is proficient on electric, upright and baby basses. He has also worked with crossover artists such as Andy Narell, Alex Cuba, Odessa-Havana, Hilario Duran, Jesse Cook, the Lula All Stars and Robert Michaels.
About to launch his first album, Pollen, this quartet bridges the worlds of pop, world and jazz, drawing on the talents of some of Toronto’s finest Latin jazz players. With the potential to follow in the footsteps of fellow Latin Grammy-winner Alex Cuba, Rodríguez is a part of the next generation of genre-defying Cuban singer-songwriters.
