Yogetsu Akasaka is a Zen Buddhist Monk born in Tokyo, Japan. He started his musical career in 2005, busking on the streets of London as a human beatboxer. Long before YouTube became a thing to build a career. Even though he only spoke a few words of English, he managed to build a strong foundation as a performing artist in 8 different cities around the world, getting attention and praise from thousands of daily commuters falling in love with his music. In 2015 his journey took an unexpected turn, he was invited by his father to become a Zen Buddhist Monk. Yogetsu dropped his microphone and joined the Soto Zen Buddhism Monastery in Japan. Here, he was ordained by Zen Master Koshu Itabashi and practiced as his student for 2,5 years. During this life-changing experience he was chosen as one of the representing Monks to visit Zen temples all over the U.S., including the San Francisco Zen Center where Steve Jobs used to meditate. Around the summer of 2017 Yogetsu left the monastery and went back to his hometown Tokyo. Here, in his room, he felt called to create music again. This time, combining it with Ancient Buddhist teachings. Yogetsu connected the dots in combining Buddhist chanting with live looping and beatboxing. The first time he experienced it himself, it blew his mind. From that moment on, his life was never the same. As more people started to tune into his unique style of music, his audience and fanbase started to grow exponentially. According to Zen Buddhist teachings, everything is happening once in a lifetime, so the best way to understand Yogetsu’s music is to experience it live. His style is mindfully created, transcendental, and mind expanding. Ranging in the realms from calm meditative states to deep expansive techno. Combining elements such as the handpan, guitars, loopstation, and chanting Buddhist Mantras with his multi-layered voice, Yogetsu’s music is intended to bring healing, improve personal well-being and overall happiness.
