Pop singer-songwriter Yana gears up to release first project since debut EP “Hindsight" in 2022, which garnered over 100,000 streams as an independent release. Written as a confessional, contemporary-pop ballad, "So Bad" vulnerably walks the line between disillusionment and hope for an impossible relationship. “I had fallen in love with a close friend of mine before he came out,” Yana explains, “and by the time I knew, I had already resolved to love him.” Helplessly honest, "So Bad" sets the tone for Yana’s upcoming EP on track for release by early 2024. Written by Yana and former Halsey drummer and producer Nate Lotz (aka Franco Reid) and produced by Jon Joseph (Børns, Gungor, The Technicolors), "So Bad" highlights Yana’s early 2000s pop-inspired melodic intuition and stellar vocal control, rivaling that of female pop artists in the mainstream, while still staying true to her indie-pop charm. Bulgarian-born and California-raised Yana began singing and playing classical piano not long after emigrating to Lakewood with her sister and parents, both of whom were looking for a life free from post-communist ideals in the early 2000s. Yana’s family quickly acknowledged her interests in the arts from a young age and nurtured her musicianship, allowing her the freedom to dedicate the majority of her growing years to developing her skillset and sonic style. In 2017, she was accepted into Berklee College of Music and spent most of her time working on her debut project, graduating in 2020 with a songwriting degree. She released debut EP “Hindsight" in 2022, following the indie success of standout single "Don’t Want Your Love." As an homage to her cultural roots, the project includes a modern interpretation of traditional Bulgarian folk song "Zaidi, Zaidi" that struck a chord in her slavic hometown, alongside three stripped, emotive pop tracks.
Yana has performed in Sofar Los Angeles.
