As featured on WQXR and Strings Magazine, we are four classically-trained musicians who draw great inspiration from artists of Hip-Hop, R&B, Soul, and Jazz genres. Our mission: to fundamentally reshape the way string quartets make music. In the world of string playing, rhythmic genres like Hip-Hop, R&B, and Soul music have historically been neglected and underutilized by performers and composers. By employing advanced extended techniques to produce sounds and textures that are prevalent in these genres, wholesoul aims to codify a new sound and language for the traditional string quartet. Having recorded with Hozier, Papa Roach, grentperez, Bad Snacks, and more, wholesoul is on a mission to shift the sonic direction of music back toward succulent string sound.
