Wes Finch

Performed in Sofar Liverpool

Wes’ musical style feels rooted in folk but has the ambition and sophistication of pop. Live shows are engaging, energetic and intimate, both solo or with a combination of his four piece line up (Wes – vocals and guitars, Ben Haines – drums and percussion, Jools Street – violin, Bradley Blackwell – bass, keys, mandolin). Over the last few years Wes has shared stages with the likes of Billy Bragg, Martin Carthy, Richard Thompson, Lucy Ward, Merry Hell and O’Hooley & Tidow at various venues, folk clubs and festivals. 2015’s album, “Awena” is a collaboration with acclaimed producer Gerry Diver (Sam Lee, Lisa Knapp, O’Hooley & Tidow) and is a collection of dark and twisted songs sitting somewhere near the folk/new folk bracket. Wes is currently working on new, brighter and more electronic sounding material with his band for a 2017 release whilst also exploring the words of William Shakespeare and putting them to new original music. Praise for ‘Awena’: “…a welcome and singular addition to the list of newbloods reinvigorating British folk music…Non-trad acoustic roots delivered with an edgy, risk-taking sonic boldness” (Nigel Williamson in Uncut) “Awena is a remarkable and totally original record, a triumph that could well turn out to be career defining in announcing the arrival of Wes Finch as an exceptional song-smith.” (Folk Radio) “Disturbingly brilliant” Roots Magazine. “Awena is a brilliant record that makes me think of Villagers and The Unthanks meeting in the Twilight Zone.” (Folk Radio) “A blast of originality, primal energy and musical magic in a market saturated with cloned artists and homogenised songs” – Gerry Diver “A potent combination at the edge of modern music making and, I suspect, something of a game changer.” (FATEA)
