Viara Ivanova

Viara Ivanova is a Bulgarian singer-songwriter, lyricist, session musician and a music educator, currently based in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Viara has enjoyed working as an entertainer, backing vocalist, bassist, as well as a session musician for bands, songwriters and composers in the UK and Bulgaria. After releasing “Baba” ( “Grandma”), her most popular song yet, in 2011, Viara has been working on her original music, performing solo and with her trio. Viara's songs fuse blues, Americana, soul, urban, contemporary musical theater, and chill out, with a healthy pinch of self-irony, and a much needed portion of compassion for her fellow journeymen and women. Since becoming a mum, her focus both personally and lyrically is on human relationships, family dynamics, challenging myths and superstitions in parenthood. Viara is always looking for new, engaging, humorous, and sometimes, bitter-sweet ways to write about human experiences and local stereotypes. At Sofar Plovdiv we have her singing "Grandma", "Brother", "Why ask the question at all" and "Pretending".
