From the TED stage to NBC The Voice, alt-pop artist Sonia Rao uses her music to uplift and soothe, and as a means to work towards social justice. Forbes praised her for galvanizing the AAPI vote in the 2020 election with her politically charged song "Louder", and raising awareness for Stacey Abrams' Fair Fight Action. Sonia has also been invited to perform and speak about her journey as an artist at Microsoft, Disney, Soho House, IndieGoGo, and more. The raw and emotional quality of her music lends itself well to the screen, and after having her songs featured on more than 35 television shows, Sonia was named BMI's Spotlight Indie Artist and Buzzfeed’s Asian American Artist to Watch. Most recently, she was featured in the book ‘My Morning Routine - How Successful People Start Every Day Inspired,’ alongside Arianna Huffington and Marie Kondo. Sonia plays violin, piano, flute, guitar, and ukulele, and lives in Los Angeles.
Sonia Rao has performed in Sofar Raleigh / Durham, Sofar Denver, Sofar Dallas / Fort Worth, Sofar Austin, Sofar Phoenix, Sofar Minneapolis, Sofar St. Louis, Sofar Indianapolis, Sofar Chicago, Sofar Boston, Sofar Los Angeles, and Sofar NYC.
