Single Girl, Married Girl

L.A.-based pop/folk/Americana outfit Single, Girl, Married Girl writes simultaneously beautiful and devastating songs with poetic, perceptive lyrics that astutely capture what it means to be human. The new album, Three Generations of Leaving, chronicles the trials and traumas of three generations of women from the same family - the matriarch, one of her daughters, and her estranged granddaughter. Steeped in a folk songwriting tradition that harkens back to Pete Seeger and Joan Baez mixed with modern songwriting elements in the style of Jenny Lewis and Brandi Carlile, the band fearlessly tackles issues ranging from loss and drug addiction to insecurity and depression. “When writing this album, we didn’t know how much it resembled our own life - loss, moving on, change, self-doubt, making art, hopefulness, love,” singer/songwriter and banjo player, Chelsey Coy, states. “When looking back on each of the songs, it is apparent that we were going through something (or really lots of things); we just had to get to the other side to gain perspective.” Press: "Three Generations of Leaving overflows with ethereal harmonies and enrapturing music that wrap around affecting and moving lyrics and mesmerizing stories of hopelessness and hopefulness, loss and love, abuse and affection… An album worthy of the ache, the yearning, and the liberatory ambivalence of their namesake." - No Depression "Tracing a thread of the effects of trauma throughout the album, while ordered as a deliberate sequence, the songs are never fully character-specific, allowing the listener to draw their own interpretations while still sensing the connections that hold them together. It’s an assuredly crafted and highly rewarding listen." - Folk Radio UK "Sharp & rootsy... not a poor track... they indulge their musical sensibilities with no repetition." - Americana Highways "A timeless collection of songs… [Single Girl, Married Girl] effortlessly unites nostalgia with upbeat pop sounds.” - American
