Sanja Cin's songs are snapshots in time. A gentle tone and insistent melodies, embedded in an authentic and charming performance. Her music naturally embraces a lot of her listening interests, among them classic pop and folk, as well as music from Brazil to the Balkans. Her vocal styling is reminiscent of singer-songwriters such as Feist, Regina Spektor or Jesca Hoop.
Born in Bosnia and Hercegovina, Sanja grew up in a musical family in a small Austrian town. After several years spent in Vienna, studying and working in collaborative musical projects, she landed by surprise in Manchester, where she recorded her solo EP Bees.
The five tracks were produced by Manchester-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Alan Keary (alias Shunya), in collaboration with musicians from Austria and Manchester.
The EP features a selection of pieces Sanja wrote in the last couple of years, colored by beautiful arrangements around her singing and playing. The music talks about the urgency of life and the ever present resistance towards it, about recognising your own super powers and honoring them by stepping out of the old, over and over again. The songs are rooted in pop, however, not too predictable at times, playing with structures and melodies, quietly bypassing predefined routes.
