Rufus

Rufus is a fresh face who brings a new sound to R&B Music. He is a musician with a genuine desire to bridge the gap between the youth and the elders of today with his music being the catalyst for change and the voice of positivity. Set to drop fall 2012, his self-written debut album “Growing Pains” which follows an autobiographical journey of Rufus’ growth as an individual, a role model, a songwriter and as an artist. In the tradition of many renowned R&B musicians, Rufus began singing in the church. Born in Toronto, ON but raised within a Caribbean heritage he was exposed to many of the music legends of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. At the age of ten his family moved to Kitchener-Waterloo, ON and it was there Rufus made his presence known by winning talent competitions and trophies. During his high school years Rufus hit the road touring Ontario and Quebec as the energetic front man for the cover band The Motor Booty Affair. It was clear to anyone that witnessed the passion Rufus brought onstage that his performance was effortless and contagious. Despite his success onstage; in 2002 Rufus broke away from the cover band to devote his time to developing himself as an independent artist. It was at this time Rufus also completed college and became a child and youth worker. He relentlessly strives to blend his two passions to positively relate and influence our most valuable commodity and leaders of tomorrow, our youth! In 2006 he released debut EP “The Reason”. The catchy first released single ‘Sex on the Beach’ spun continuously on national and international radio stations. A year later Rufus won the opportunity to co-write and record a song with Canadian industry guru Markus Kane. The song ‘Street Thing’ featuring Toronto rapper Thrust was an instant hit and topped the charts in London and Kitchener-Waterloo. Over the years Rufus has performed at a variety of music festivals throughout Ontario and been blessed to share the stage and work with respected artists such as Jully Black, Shad, Choclair, Mac Graham, Slakah the Beatchild, Chris Rouse and Joel Joseph. After countless hours in the studio, Rufus is ready to share his story with the world. “Growing Pains” has something for everyone, by combining a unique flavor of old school rhythms, new school vibes with a touch of soul. Rufus is excited and ready to hit the airwaves and stage to open up this new chapter in his musical journey and lifetime dream. As Rufus says “his ultimate goal for his music is to become the bridge between the youth and elders of today, the kid next door that people can relate to and the catalyst for growth and change in our communities.” Look out, he is coming!
