Popurri are an exciting new ensemble exploring both rare Klezmer repertoire and neighbouring Balkan traditions.
A Popurri is a pan-European stew made from a miscellany of colourful ingredients. The ensemble incorporate both traditional and contemporary flavours in their own musical concoctions.
With a deep working knowledge of the Klezmer genre and its musical relatives in Bulgaria and Romania, Popurri’s melody players forge strong links to the past, whilst the addition of rhythm section provides a modern twist.
Through reworking rare repertoire for modern audiences, Popurri aim to entertain, educate, and innovate all at once. By maintaining and developing living traditions, they hope to promote a deeper understanding of Klezmer and its connection to neighbouring musics
