Philine Sonny is immediate. From the first percussive hits on “In Denial,” which opens Philine’s deeply felt Invader EP, you’ll want to dance, you’ll want to cry, you’ll want to scream, and you’ll want to roll the windows down and go for an endless drive. The German-born singer- songwriter and producer is the master of hook-packed, guitar driven pop catharsis, and she’s only just getting started. Based in the German city of Bochum, Philine has already caught international attention with her unmatched ear, intimate live sets, and eclectic taste, which ranges from current to classic: Sam Fender, Clairo, Holly Humberstone, Ben Howard, Bryan Adams, Bleachers, and her all-time favorite, Bruce Springsteen. In the run up to releasing Invader, Philine made waves at SXSW and Hamburg’s Reeperbahn Festival, where fans and industry members instantly connected to her fresh onstage charisma and willingness to tackle heady emotional subjects. Philine’s artistry is incredibly personal. A self-described “loner” and introvert, Philine grew up spending much of her free time hunkered down in her bedroom, where she taught herself how to write and produce. A DIY approach has always been instilled with Philine's creative endeavors. Beyond writing and producing her own material, she creates and edits a lot of her media—from visualizers and vlogs to canvases and artworks while dabbling with stop motion for upcoming content. Lyrically, she draws inspiration from close relationships while unpacking how it feels to experience depression, imposter syndrome in friendships, and growing up in a hometown that never felt like a home to her. With her open-hearted artistry and unapologetically authentic demeanor, Philine might have called herself a “loner” or “outsider” in the past, but her music and candor are emotional magnets. Fans from around the globe have already found solace in Philine’s raw relatability, and it’s only a matter of time before millions more adopt her as their chosen family.
