OJ in The Yams formed together in the winter of 2017. Based out of Brooklyn, NY, with great respect for a variety of musical genres, their compositions reflect an ode to hip hop, jazz, and classical music. Influences range from Herbie Hancock, to Little Dragon, to J Dilla. OJ in The Yams have opened up for acclaimed bands such as Busty and The Bass, and collaborated with artists such as Dizzy Senze and Jasmine Mans, at sold out venues like Mercury Lounge, Bowery Ballroom, and Nuyorican Cafe. They have also featured at Sofar Sounds first hip hop themed night as well as the first Virgin Mobile collaboration with Sofar, along with other NY events such as Treble Tuesday’s, and ELLIS Presents. The group is currently focusing on creating their first album. It will be made with original music, marinated and filled with relatable, personal experiences, served with head nodding grooves and sweet vibes.
