Cellist Mitchell Lyon approaches music making with a zeal for harnessing the unique power of musical experience. At home with audiences of all types, he has performed in venues ranging from Carnegie Hall to intimate house concerts. In addition to work within the classical repertoire, Mr. Lyon enjoys exploring improvisation, folk music styles and the potential of amplification and looping. A firm believer in the importance of arts outreach, Mr. Lyon works as a New York Philharmonic Teaching Artist. He led three teams of Juilliard students to New Orleans for outreach work and has held a number of teaching and outreach fellowships. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School where he studied with Bonnie Hampton and recently completed his Masters there under the tutelage of Timothy Eddy.
