Melia

Melia, meaning, A 'Black, Brave Queen', is the stage name of Agatha Mwansa, a Zambian Development Analyst by profession, and a rising artist in mordern reggae-pop music. Melia is a Christian by faith. Born on 4th February 1999, Melia grew up in a family where music was part of daily life, with strong roots in church choirs. Her stage presence started early. At just a child, she was selected as lead singer for her group at a musical event hosted by the International School of Tomorrow in Russia, a first moment that sparked a lifelong connection to singing. Back in Zambia, Melia honed her craft with the 'Loyola Singers', the youth choir at her church, St. Ignatius Catholic Church. It was there that she built the vocal foundation and confidence that would carry her forward. From 2018 to 2023, she worked as a backing vocalist for one of Zambia’s leading gospel artists, Esther Chungu, gaining five years of professional stage and studio experience. Melia stepped into her solo career with purpose. She released her debut original single “PIAN” on 16th March 2021, followed by a strategic pause to refine her sound and complete her academic goals. She officially launched her solo journey in 2024 with two singles: “Super Exciting” featuring legendary Zambian artist James Sakala, and “Beautiful” featuring Josh Thee Artist. Both tracks showcased her ability to blend soulful vocals with modern Afro-fusion sensibilities. Beyond music, Melia is back in University currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Development Studies at the University of Zambia (UNZA). Today, Melia is an active performing artist recording new music in the studio. She’s crafting a sound that’s personal, intentional, and rooted in the stories of love and life that shape her generation. Melia is excited to share her music with the world with the purpose of touching lives positively on different levels.
