Belgian harpist Lise Vandersmissen graduated Magna cum Laude from her Bachelor’s Degree at LUCA School of Arts, Belgium with Lieve Robbroeckx, and with Distinction from her Master’s Degree at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London with Imogen Barford. Upon graduation, she completed a two-year Fellowship at the Guildhall, during which she received the Guildhall Harp Prize. Lise was a Prizewinner in competitions in Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands. She is a Live Music Now musician, Concordia Foundation Artist and a UKHA Emerging Artist. She won a place at the London Sinfonietta Academy and the Académie Camac in France. She was recently awarded the Culture Prize in Bilzen, Belgium. Lise travels with her modern pedal harp and her Italian Triple Harp to perform across Europe and Asia. She just completed a six-month residency in Hong Kong where she was teaching and performing at an international harp academy. Lise was the Young Artist in Residence of first edition of the early music festival “Intra Muros” in Belgium last summer, during which she performed three recitals. In June 2019, Lise gave the world premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage’s new piece for solo harp: Four Meditations. Lise performed her transcription of “Le Tombeau de Couperin” by Maurice Ravel at the World Harp Congress in Wales last month. Lise has performed as a concerto soloist with orchestras in Poland, Belgium, The Netherlands, and the UK, both on the modern pedal harp and on the Italian Triple Harp. When she is not playing the harp, Lise loves to knit while floating on her houseboat on the London canals.
