Described as a serious Australian talent, Leanne Tennant is the Qld Music Awards winner for best “Blues & Roots” artist with her debut album, “Pull Up Your Britches” being described as remarkable by Rhythms Magazine.
Leanne weaves a rare mixture of styles driven by a raw and honest performance, peppered with cheeky lyrics and a fiery backhand. Her eclectic repertoire of Folk/Blues and Horror-Country has seen her perform with acts as diverse as The Audreys, Sticky Fingers and Kasey Chambers.
She has grabbed the attention of Triple J with them debuting 3 x tracks off the album, along with being named as a favourite emerging artist by Double J’s Emma Swift.
Once a 16 year old busking on the streets of Brisbane and playing in seedy venues around the Valley, this classically-trained flautist and self-taught guitarist has since played a string of festivals and toured 4 x times.
Occupying a broad musical landscape between influences like Tom Waits, Ruth Brown, The Lumineers, The Graveyard Train & Lanie Lane, Leanne creates music that no one genre is worthy containing.
“Songs inspired by a Hollywood movie about a nymphomaniac that was named after a 1927 Blind Lemon Jefferson blues number. What’s not to get excited about? She’s a little bit country, she’s a little bit Southern Gothic horror, she’s our favourite singer from FNQ” Rhythms Magazine - 2015
