Lavender was formed in the wake of America's tumultuous 2016 elections, when college housemates Alli Vega, Emily Carlson, and Sophie Boddorff spontaneously signed up for a battle of the bands as "Nasty Women". They recruited drummer and longtime friend Matt Wright to fill out their sound and what began as a one-night performance at their university quickly became a committed band, by July 2017 Lavender found themselves opening a sold out show for Wolf Alice. Alli began writing Lavender's EP in late summer of 2017. In search of a fuller sound, the band welcomed guitarist and mutual friend Trent Burns. An early appreciator of Lavender's mission to bring more women into indie rock, he joined as a supporting member at live shows and in the studio. The resulting EP, You Are in the Right Place, was released in November on all major streaming platforms to positive reception. Now, with its members settling into post-grad life, Lavender continues to create infectiously catchy yet deeply personal music. While You Are in the Right Place celebrated the end of an era for its founding members, the band is facing forward and exploring a wider range of influences while writing new music. From sonic walls of growling guitars to anthemic indie pop with swaggering vocal melodies, Lavender's newest material is equal parts familiar and distinct.
