Since the days of ground-breaking world music group ‘Mouth Music’, Kaela has forged a fascinating musical path, gathering influences from her extensive travels around the globe, particularly India. She is known for her unique approach to the Scottish tradition, and enjoys unusual instrumentation and vocal improvisation.
Much in demand for her uniquely beautiful voice, she has shared the stage with the likes of Dick Gaughan, Eddie Reader, Eliza Carthy, Karen Matheson, Mike McGoldrick, The Bevvy Sisters, and now tours and records with Shooglenifty.
In her duo, Kaela partners up with acclaimed drummer, percussionist and guitar player James Mackintosh of Shooglenifty and Transatlantic Sessions. Whilst remaining faithful to the traditional songs, they explore the hypnotic rhythmic cycles of Gaelic Waulking songs and interweave Ballads with mesmeric harmony, to create an emotive and uplifting experience.
Said of her 2016 album The Fruited Thorn:
