Individual Time Travel, the brainchild of Jacob Janns, is a music project that combines the grounded vibes of folky acoustic and jangly guitars with cozier and more ethereal synthpop-elements. The instrumentation, while sophisticated, is often simple, allowing the emotions conveyed by Janns’ distinctive fragile voice to take center stage. The project's name draws inspiration from Jørgen Leth's film "Stars and water carriers," which describes the "Individual Time Trial" in cycling as “the race of truth” - a battle against the clock and a confrontation with oneself. For Janns, this project is more than just music; it's a journey of self-awareness and uncompromising storytelling. The debut double-single "Young People Having a Trip / They Killed You (Live)" was released 29th of September on Bandcamp and all major streamingservices: "'Young People Having a Trip' always felt like the starting point of the ITT because it describes a setting stuck in my brain for over a decade now. During high school, I visited a ruin bar in Budapest, and the atmosphere there completely blew me away. Without ever physically coming back to this place, I've returned countless times in daydreams, picturing the old factory building with a black and white film projecting on the graffiti-covered concrete wall. The song is me describing the place, while trying to capture its spacious atmosphere through the instrumentation. I chose a metallic, almost industrial-sounding synthesizer for the main melody to evoke the essence of the factory building." The second track, 'They Killed You (Live),' received a glowing review from the Philadelphia-based music blog, The Wild Is Calling who wrote, "... the song itself features harmonious depth within a simple construct. The reverb helps to resonate those voicings, a blend that we find intoxicating," and added, "They Killed You is ironically gorgeous."
