I&R

Providence, RI native Josh Cournoyer has called Nashville home for the past four years, but it’s his East Coast musical beginnings that provided the inspiration for his full-length album Bankrupt City. After spending more than a decade in bands in the Northeast, touring the East Coast and working in music venues throughout New England, Cournoyer headed South in 2014. The growing pains of those first few years in a new city (particularly one that seems, at times, intimidatingly saturated with musicians) led to Cournoyer writing the songs that would become I&R, his first solo effort. Cournoyer is hesitant to call I&R his own; rather, he refers to it as a collaborative of musicians with his songs as their uniting link. Bankrupt City was produced by fellow Providence native Mike Poorman and Middle Tree Studios’ Joe Pisapia (Guster, Ben Folds), and it features additional production by Saves the Day’s Arun Bali.
