Hurt & Skip

Hurt & Skip are a trio named after legendary blues innovators Mississippi John Hurt and Skip James. The trio stays true to form employing authentic open tuned dobro and acoustic guitar played finger style with glass and copper slides creating a dark and mysterious yet romantic frequency that stirs the soul. Couple this with polyrhythmic percussion via the use of congas and bongos played masterfully by hand driven underneath by the familiar kick drum thump that forces the toe to tap and the seat to sway. Filling in the gaps with shakers, cowbells and tambourines the sometimes gritty and occasionally vulnerable vocals soar over the landscape provided by these warm and dangerous instruments giving to the song what one would ask for when looking for directions on a dark road. Hurt & Skip are the benefactors of an accidental creation of a new genre aptly named "Tribal Blues" and it demands one sit with an open mind to fully appreciate.
