Ellen Eritrea was born in Portland, Maine, from an early age she wanted to pursue music but life in a small city lacked the creative atmosphere she was seeking. The hopeless dreamer struggled to plan her future. She had to decide to share her talent with the world or to give her parents the college degree they hoped she would earn when they immigrated to this country. After years of ignoring her assigned readings she realized, “the road less traveled [really might] make all the difference.” Ellen no longer wanted to do what was expected of her, because she wanted to follow her passions and stay pure before she felt like an outsider to her own self. Then as she recited her own soliloquy questioning what choice is best for her path. The singer, songwriter realized she was more concerned about the melody that accompanied her life. So she dropped out college, moved to Brooklyn, and started attending open mic nights. That was the day she disappointed her parents but redefined her purpose in life and also her name. Ellen kept her first name but adopted the name of her ancestral African land, "Eritrea," to be her second paying homage to her heritage. Being of Eritrean descent was a huge part of her existence. The East African culture’s influence is reflected in the songs she writes, the way she sings each one, the styles of the styles of hair, the clothes she chooses to wear, and the pride she feels as an African woman. Ellen started to attend showcases and open mic nights, first was "Treble Tuesdays", mid-week she tried to catch "Five Minute Mic Live," and weekends brought the best which fed her "Soul in The Horn". Ellen Eritrea is a woman committed to having her voice heard and making a difference. She is more than an R&B singer. The young artist is determined to be heard and talented enough to hit a high note while she speaks her truth set to a rhythm.
