DARUMA

DARUMA is a fresh, new contemporary jazz group features original music by some of Denver’s finest young talent. DARUMA’s sound takes audiences from deep grooves, to intimate ballads, to Coltrane-inspired swing. DARUMA reinterprets the jazz aesthetic for the 21st century and incorporates rock, film music, and neo-soul in a genre-bending original sound. The band has toured the United States selling out venues from Texas to Chicago. They were awarded the South Arts Jazz Road touring grant, sold out their debut performance at Dazzle Denver, and have been featured on the KUVO Jazz 89.3 (PBS), NPR radio stations, Backstage Jazz podcast, and CBS broadcast TV. Their performances have drawn crowds of over 1300 people, and have headlined festivals throughout the midwest. Members of the ensemble have performed with leading voices in contemporary music ranging from Billy Childs, Theo Croker, Rufus Reid and Tia Fuller to the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Dave Kikoski, Joe Farnsworth, Adam Deitch, and Big Gigantic. They have played at notable venues including Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Blue Note Amsterdam, and Birdland, and have won ASCAP and Downbeat awards. DARUMA continues to grow its national audience with shows scheduled from Arizona to Seattle for their second U.S. tour in November 2024. The band will continue to release singles on Monk Music in anticipation of their debut studio album.
