Chen Levy (32) - Musician, singer and composer, head of the Vocal Jazz track in Rimon, has a BA and a teaching certificate from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and is active in a variety of fields in Israeli music. Chen was born in the city of Eilat, a middle child between an older brother - a musician, and a younger sister. Her unique voice, which combines delicate melismas and the softness of Jazz music, was developed over the years - from the connection between the Mediterranean sound on which she grew up and the Jazz music in which she specialized in the Academy. After her military service, she enrolled in the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance for the dance program, but her great love for music and her influence led her to change course and join the Academy's jazz program. In recent years, Chen has performed with the Ra’anana Symphonette Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Michael Wolpe, at the Desert Sounds Festival accompanied by the Be’er Sheva Symphonette conducted by Karin Ben-Yosef, alongside Berry Sakharof in a unique project of symphonic arrangements for his songs and alongside Harel Skaat. She has worked with leading acapella ensembles such as "Vocal Octet", "Carmel Aacapella", Haif Big Band and Holon Big Band under the direction of Guri Agmon, and percussionist Chen Chimblista with orchestras throughout Israel and abroad. As a jazz singer, Chen works with several ensembles on original materials alongside original jazz arrangements for Israeli music and standards. Over the past few years she has performed throughout the country with these ensembles - including the Eilat Jazz Festival. Chen is also involved in composing music for dance, and her work "Kaachkes" won third prize in the Gertrude Kraus 2010 competition. Levy is currently promoting her self-titled debut album, performing with jazz ensembles throughout the country and directing the vocal jazz program at the Rimon School of Music.
Chen Levy has performed in Sofar Tel Aviv-Jaffa and Sofar Jerusalem.
