Briana Alexa Martinez, known as Brika (pronounced "bree-kuh"), is an alternative singer-songwriter born and raised in Miami, Florida to Cuban-American parents. A musician since the tender age of three, Brika’s intensely creative nature has been apparent from the start. Her music is both vibrant and melancholic, running the gamut of human emotions and showing a categorical refusal to be boxed into any one genre or movement. Voice Memos, Brika’s debut album released in Dec 2014 and recorded with esteemed producer Julio Reyes Copello, was an auspicious debut, offering a refreshing perspective on love, loss, and self-empowerment. The album received critical acclaim and made waves across the Internet; it topped Hype Machine’s Popular Chart seven times and was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday Playlist and iTunes’ Must Listen To List, and it produced several standout singles including fan favorite “Expectations”. Following her debut, Brika released a string of singles over the next several years while writing for her next EP. Standout singles “Just Wanna Be Single” and “You” have garnered over 8M and 6M global streams respectively and were placed in over 150 playlists, including popular Spotify playlists New Music Friday, Chill Vibes, Indie Pop, Latin Divas, and Left of Center. Her tracks saw several entrances into the Spotify Viral 50 – “You” reached #27 globally, with the #1 placement in Peru and Ecuador and top ten charting in Colombia and Mexico. To date, Brika has garnered over 37 million global streams as well as frequent airplay on stations like KCRW and Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 program.
