Brett Castro is searching for the soundtrack to suburbia. Hailing from just outside of Cleveland, Ohio, the 21-year-old has made a name for himself as an up-and-coming singer, producer, and songwriter. Fusing electro-r&b and indie-pop with folk sincerity, Castro paints an intimate portrait of life and love growing up in a small town.
Castro, currently based in Manhattan, released his debut single “Picture Perfect” in 2017. Impose Magazine described his sound as “intense and passionate,” with other reviewers praising Castro’s “nostalgic sense of electro-r&b” and “flush vocals soaring over tender synths.”
Coming from a theater and acting background— he starred in Charles Moore’s 2018 film ‘MADTOWN’ alongside Emmy-nominated Milo Ventimiglia—Castro’s experiences on stage inspired him to start writing music. “I had been acting out other characters and stories since I was 9," Castro says, "but I realized I had my own story to tell, and I didn't want to keep running away from it.”
“I still think about theatricality in my music - how each sound exists in space, what color and emotion it has, and use all those elements for each song to be its own world."
