Anaïs has lived multiple lives. Moving from Toulouse, to Dublin, Dakar, then California and finally London has brought many colours to her creative palette and gave birth to a music that transcends genres. Her tone is fearless and urgent. Her music, a languid haziness. Both witnesses of a past sense of displacement. Her debut single Nina touches on themes over reclamation and freedom in homage to Nina Simone. While her latest project Darkness at play, produced by Aston Rudi and the legendary Om’mas Keith (Frank Ocean, Anderson Pa'ak), is a combination of political contradictions and selfhood, the divine feminine. It is Anais’ genius to have thought carefully of a world in decay, yet resists the temptation to ill fate. The multi-talented singer and musician knows how to show human nature in all its complexity. And therefore not be confined in a single narrative of blackness.
Anaïs has performed in Sofar London.
