Performed in Sofar London

'Like listening to a reflective Radiohead after an autumn in a cabin listening to early Floyd cassettes, as Jeff Buckley drops by for tea.' – Larmer Tree Festival Ali grew up in Somerset. His first release, the EP ‘Good Morning I’ve Taken My Medicine’, helped to establish him on the London circuit, performing at venues including Bush Hall and The Union Chapel. Two follow-up singles, 'What We Say' and 'Where You Wanted' were picked up by BBC Radio 6 Music and both featured as Fresh Faves by Tom Robinson. The success of these early releases led to appearances at Larmer Tree Festival, Sofar Festival, United Islands Festival in the Czech Republic and three European tours. Ali is due to release his debut album, Rhyme and Reason early in 2020, put together with long-term collaborator Michael Appleby on guitar. He sites as current inspiration: Serpentwithfeet; Juana Molina; Cate le Bon; Fatoumata Diawara; Junun; Kate Tempest; hugely varied artists and projects but all rooted in the communication of ideas not always easily expressed. “In helping others to find their voice”, Ali concludes, “I am continually searching for my own, and, in its essence, that's what this album is: an attempt to tell my own story, without worrying what anyone else thinks.”
